Learn to Skate and the Moose Vamoose

Since we got home, Stratton started ice skating lessons. Dashell loved the ice arena....
Stratton was a little more iffy. Actually, he has really warmed up to it since his first foray and is now venturing back and forth without the cone. He talks a bigger game during the week than at the actual rink, but he really is getting better. As long as we aren't looking for any speed records.
This is our semi-resident moose. He stayed in our yard for almost 2 days straight, and has been back off and on since. The boys have enjoyed making up possibilities for where he goes to in between, including moose church, the store and moose school. This winter we have seen ALOT of moose. I can usually guarantee the boys that we will se a moose everyt ime we leave the house, and some days we see 6 or 7 on the way to town. We just live in a popular piece of moose property! On a slightly less cheerful moose tone, Brigg hit a moose on his way home from work this past week. Typically, hitting a moose means pretty serious vehicle damage and a very bad accident. But it was a lucky night for Brigg and a much less lucky night for the moose. The moose jumped over the snow bank right in front of Brigg, saw his truck, slipped on the ice and fell down feet in front of him and he ran over it. We do feel lucky that it died pretty much instantly and that both Brigg and his truck escaped unharmed. I think that Alaska is just bent on giving him every possible Alaskan experience in his first year....I've lived here most of my life, and haven't ever hit a moose. I guess we should just count our blessing and hope that this one will count for Brigg's next 30 years of Alaska driving. Now if it will just warm up a little like they keep promising. Last night was -40, and we are ready for some 0 or -5 so we can actually get out and play in the snow!
